Town Today
About this site, and the terms.
What it is, where the numbers come from, and what we do not collect.
What Town Today is
Town Today puts the things you check before you leave the house on one page. Is the Range open. What is the cheapest unleaded 91 near you. What is the weather doing, and is there a warning out.
All of it comes from public data that the Queensland Government and other public bodies already publish. We read those feeds, we tidy the numbers into plain English, and we show you when each one was last updated. We do not add opinions to them and we do not change them.
It is free to read. There is no account, and there is nothing to sign up for.
This is not an official emergency service
In an emergency, call 000. Do not wait for this page.
Town Today is not an emergency service and is not an official source of warnings. It is not affiliated with Toowoomba Regional Council, with any other council, or with the Queensland Government, and none of them has endorsed it or checked it.
The official warnings for Queensland are at disaster.qld.gov.au. If what you read here disagrees with an official source, the official source is right.
A feed can go down, and a number here can be out of date or wrong. Every block on the page shows the time it was last updated, and says so when we could not reach a source. Please check anything that matters before you act on it.
Where the numbers come from
One source per block, all of them public, each used under its own licence.
- Weather data by Open-Meteo.com
The temperature, the conditions, the high and low, and the hours ahead.
- Roads: State of Queensland (Department of Transport and Main Roads), QLDTraffic
Whether the Range is open, and the road works and crashes running in town.
- Fuel prices: State of Queensland (Department of Energy and Climate), Fuel Price QLD
The cheapest unleaded 91 near town, and the station selling it.
- Warnings: State of Queensland, disaster.qld.gov.au
Emergency alerts, and severe weather, flood and cyclone warnings.
- Air quality: State of Queensland (DETSI)
Not on the page yet. Smoke and dust readings are planned.
- Creek levels: State of Queensland (DLGWV), Water Monitoring Information Portal
Not on the page yet. Gowrie Creek gauge readings are planned.
We fetch every source from our own server on a timer and serve you the copy we hold, rather than sending your browser to them. That is what the fuel licence requires, and it keeps the sources from being hit once per reader.
Fuel price notice
The Queensland fuel price data is used under the Fuel Price Data Licence, which requires this notice wherever a price is shown.
© State of Queensland (Department of Energy and Climate) 2026. Based on Queensland Government data. The State gives no warranty and accepts no liability. Data must not be used for direct marketing or in breach of privacy laws.
Prices are shown as the source published them. A station can change its price before the source catches up, so treat a price here as a good guide and not as a quote.
Privacy
You do not need an account to read this page, and we do not ask you for your name, your email address or your phone number to read it.
Two things are stored in your own browser, and neither is sent to us as personal information: the town you picked, so a return visit lands on it, and the distance you set on the fuel card. You can clear both by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
If you press Use my location we ask your browser for your position, use it once to work out the nearest town we cover, and do not keep it or send it anywhere. Nothing happens until you press the button.
Our hosting provider keeps the ordinary server logs any website has, and counts of how many visits each page gets. We look at those counts to see whether the site is worth running. We do not build a profile of you, we do not sell anything about you, and we do not use any of it for marketing.
The site is hosted in Australia, in Sydney.
Alerts by email or push notification do not exist yet. When they do, they will be opt in, they will store only what is needed to send them, and every message will carry a one click unsubscribe.
